Governors
A message from the Chair of Governors....
Here at Saint John's, we have a commitment to our pupils to provide them with the best possible education within a safe, secure, stimulating and happy environment. We come from a variety of backgrounds and have a wide range of skills and experience. Our role is to support the school, challenge the school's leadership team to keep to high standards and also monitor performance.
The work of the Governing Body is to ensure high standards of achievement for all children and young people in the school by:
- Providing strategic leadership
- Holding school leaders to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
Our structure is made up of different "types" of Governors: Parent Governors, a Local Authority Governor, Foundation Governors, Co-opted Governors, one Headteacher and one Staff Governor.
Details of the governing body can be seen in the document below:
Would you like to get involved?
A governor's term of office is usually four years and there are opportunities to become a governor when vacancies arise. Following recent changes in the law the Governing Body can now co-opt governors from any background if they have skills that would be helpful. They can also elect associate governors (non-voting) to assist with various projects for shorter periods of time. If you would like to find out more about the Governing Body and/or the governance of the school, please get in touch via the school office.
*The Foundation Governors are appointed by the Gloucester Diocesan Board of Education after consultation with the Parochial Church Council. (PCC) of the Parish of St Luke and St John. Foundation Governors are people who are:
- Communicant members of the Church of England or members in good standing of another Christian Church who are recommended to the Diocese by the PCC.
- Interested in the school and the welfare of the pupils and staff and prepared to attend governors’ meetings and serve on committees.
- Prepared to keep themselves informed and up to date by visiting the school, by reading reports, undergo training and attend meetings.
- Prepared to make the governorship of the school their priority.

PTFA (Parent Teacher and Friends Association)
We have a very active PTFA working closely with the school to raise funds and organise social events such as the Christmas and Summer fairs, quiz evenings for parents and discos for the children. We are a registered charity and hold regular committee meetings where all are welcome.
The Current PTFA Committee:
- Natasha Sutton (Chair)
- Andy Bates (Treasurer)
- Amy Price
- John Clarkson
- Alix Cleary
- Lucy Clarkson
- Hannah Lomotey
- Lisa Oakes
- Rich Adlam
We also give an annual class fund of £200 to each year group to subsidise the cost of a class trip or other activity.
You can contact the committee in a number of ways with any comments, ideas or questions:
- Catch us in the playground - ask a member of staff to introduce you
- Email us on ptfa@st-johns-pri.gloucs.sch.uk
